Course Requirement The candidate can enroll with ICAI for Common Proficiency Test (CPT) after passing class 10th exam or after writing his 10+2 exam. Structure of the Exam The Chartered Accountancy Course is divided into three levels: Level 1 CPT : CPT is the 1st level of CA exam. The questions are objective types consisting of 200 marks multiple choice questions. The exam covers 4 subjects Accountancy (60 marks), Mercantile Laws (40 marks), Economics (50 marks) and Quantitative Aptitude (50 marks). Every correct answer fetches 1 marks and every incorrect answers carries 0.25 marks. A candidate must score minimum 100 marks or 50% to clear the exam. The exams are held twice in year June and December. Level II IPCC: Integrated Professional Competence Course (IPCC) is the 2nd level of CA exam. One can take IPCC exam after passing CPT exam and 9 months of study. IPCC consists of 2 groups of 7 subjects. A candidate must obtain 40% marks in each subject and 50% in the aggregate in each group to clear the exam. The exams are held twice in year May and November. Level III Final: CA Final is the last level of CA exam. After passing both the groups of IPCC exam and completing 2.5 years of articleship one can take the CA final exam. CA final consists of 2 groups consisting of 8 subjects. A candidate must obtain 40% marks in each subject and 50% in the aggregate in each group to clear the exam. The exams are held twice in year May and November. All the three levels of CA exams are conducted in major cities in India and other countries such as Abu Dhabi & Dubai (UAE) and Kathmandu (Nepal). Articled Training After clearing Group - I of IPCC, one has to undergo a 3 year on-the-job training known as articleship. Members of ICAI who are in practice are entitled to engage such articles. Articleship provides candidates on the job training and the candidate gets to understand the practical aspects of the course. During the last year of articleship, a student may choose to go for industrial training instead of working as an article. Industrial training ranges from 9 to 12 months and has to be completed under the supervision of an existing CA member employee of the recruiting organization.
