Glycine 1.5% Irrigation solution is a sterile, nonpyrogenic, and nonconductive irrigant used primarily in urological surgical procedures. The 3000ml format is standard for procedures requiring significant volume for visibility and cleansing.
Product Specifications
Concentration: 1.5% w/v (15g Glycine, USP per liter).
Total Volume: 3000 mL.
Osmolarity: 200 mOsmol/L (Hypotonic).
pH Range: 6.0 (typically 4.5 to 6.5).
Formulation: Glycine (NH₂CH₂COOH) in Water for Injection; contains no antimicrobial agents or added buffers.
Container Type: Usually supplied in flexible plastic (PVC or polyolefin) bags with a hanger hole and an outlet port for irrigation sets.
Indications for Use
Urologic Irrigation: Used as a lavage for the urinary bladder during transurethral procedures such as Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP) or bladder surgery.
Distension Visibility: Provides a clear field of view for endoscopic instruments by distending the bladder and washing away blood and tissue fragments.
Catheter Patency: Utilized postoperatively to maintain the patency of indwelling catheters.
Clinical Advantages
Nonconductive: Because it is nonelectrolytic, it is safe for use during electrosurgical (monopolar) procedures, as it does not conduct electrical current.
Nonhemolytic: The 1.5% concentration minimizes the risk of intravascular hemolysis (rupturing of red blood cells) if the solution is absorbed into the bloodstream through open veins.
