Now some history of Motorcycle:
History of motorcycle begins with steam powered cycles. “Michaux et Cie” is the first company to construct bycylces with pedals known as velocipede. In 1867 Ernest Michaux created first steampowered velocipede by fitting a small steam engine to it. A couple of few other similar vehicles and patented in those times. .
In 1881, at Arizona in US Luis Copelan created a smaller steam boiler to be fitted on American Star high-wheeler. In 1887 he formed the Northrop Manufacturing Co. and produced the first successful 'Moto-Cycle', which was actually a three wheeler.
Than came the petroleum powered motor cycles. Daimler and Maybach of Germany invented the first petrol driven motorcycle “Daimler Reitwagen” in the 1885. This vehicle has two outrigger wheels to remain upright while turning. They called their invention ‘Reitwagen” or “riding car”.
Edward Butler of England designed the first commercial self propelled cycle which has three wheels, it is called Butler Petrol Cycle. This vehicle is commercially built by the Merryweather Fire Engine company of Greenwich in 1888. It ran on four stroke engine with rotary valves and carburetor and was state of the art at that time.However, this venture failed due of lack of finance.
In 1894, Hildebrand & Wolfmüller became the first series production motorcycle, and the first to be called a motorcycle .
Among the popular brands today Royal Enfield started in 1901 closely followed by Indian and Harley Davidson in 1901. First World war increased the interest on motorcycles. After the World War II European and American dominance was broken by Japanese motorbikes because of their law coast and high performance.
