1. Take an ammonia paper from its package and find its mass in grams correct to two decimal places. Measure its dimensions in centimeters to the nearest millimeter and find its area. From the values of the mass and area, calculate the mass of the paper in grams per square centimeters. 2. Open the door of the exposure chamber. Raise the hinge dacrylic sheet. Place the ammonia paper, coated face up, Over the resilient foam sheet, Lower the acrylic sheet so that its firmly over the paper. Ensure that the paper. Ensure that the paper lies flat and is free of any fold or crease. 3. Remove the test specimen holder from the specimen support. Remove one test specimen from the conditioning chamber and place it over the lower disc of the specimen holder, with the screw on the disc passing through the hole in the specimen. Place the upper disc of the specimen holder over the lower disc. Ensure that the small marks on the surface of the test specimen lie at the periphery of the upper disc. If not, adjust the position of the test specimen by pulling till all the six holes lie at the periphery of the upper disc. of the specimen holder. Tighten the knurled nut to hold the two discs together. Lift the test specimen holder from the knurled nut and briskly move the test specimen up and down ten times, resting it on the table momentarily after each no and down movement in order to allow the fabric to orient itself freely and draps into its natural folds. 4. Place the test specimen holder over the specimen support such that the pin on the specimen supports site inside the hole in the screw of the specimen holder. 5. Switch on the lamp. Note the time at which the lamp has been switched on, Allow the paper to get exposed for a period of ten to twelve minutes. Note:- The exposure time may be changed to suit the quality of ammopis paper being used. The time selected shall be such that a clear demarcation between exposed and unexposed areas is obtained after developing of the exposed paper. 6. Open the door of the developing chamber below the exposure chamber. Remove the plastic bottle placed inside. If the level ammonium hydroxide in it is less than half, add more to caise the level to three fourth. If the in the bottle does not give off a strong smell of ammonia, drain it out and replace with fresh up to three fourth of the height of the bottle, replace the bottle in the developing chamber with its cap removed. 7. Remove the exposed paper from the exposure chamber and place it with the exposed face downwards over the welded wire mesh platform inside the developing chamber. Allow it to remain in this state for a period of ten minutes. At the end of this period, remove the developed paper from the chamber. If no further tests are to be conducted replace the cap of the ammonium hydroxide bottle. 8. The outline of the exposed area on the paper may be slightly hazy or diffused because of divergence of light rays. Draw freehand a smooth curve through the centre of the diffused areas, leaving out hazy portions or indistinct boundaries. 9. Condition the paper to moisture equilibrium in standard atmosphere. Cut out the drape pattern with a pair of scissors and determine its mass in grams correct to two decimal places. 10. Reverse the specimen and obtain the drape pattern with the other surface upward, using a fresh ammonia paper. 11. Repeat the above procedure to test the remaining test specimens.
