ISO/ IEC 17025:2017 defines the general requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories in order to build confidence in the laboratory activities.
ISO 17025 Accreditation is managed by International Laboratory Accreditation Co-operation Committee (ILAC) and Asia Pacific Laboratory Accreditation Co-operation Committee (APLAC) Mutual Recognition Arrangements (MRA). ILAC and APLAC are involved in development and updating of guidelines as regards to the accreditation activities.
Upon accreditation of laboratory by such recognized body, the test/ calibration report of laboratory gets global acceptance. The ISO 17025:2017 standard for laboratory accreditation primarily focusses on independent testing and calibration laboratories as well as laboratories of company/ other laboratory.

The ISO 17025 accreditation certificate is issued for the period of two years upon successful completion of pre-assessment and registration (final) assessment.
