FSSC 22000 is a qualification scheme for food safety systems certification that ensures your customers have the quality and management of a food safety program. FSSC 22000 is gaining rapid popularity and increasing numbers of dealers and distributors are awaiting certification from their customers which avoids disease and expensive, harmful consumer recalls. More than 7,600 facilities are now globally accredited and FSSC 22000 is the most rapidly increasing qualification scheme.
At all points in the food supply chain there are food safety threats and accidents. The FSSC 22000 provides a way to guarantee oversight in your company and across the supply chain for food security controls. The FSSC 22000 is the most comprehensive, easily accessible food safety management system available for the entire supply chain under a single certification.
The food safety system FSSC 22000 is a standardized safety standard based on ISO which promotes transparency across your food supply chain. It is based on the standards of the ISO 22000 Food Safety System. With the FSSC 22000 ISO certification, key management software requirements such as ISO 9001 (quality assurance), ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety) are seamlessly integrated.
What Is Certification FSSC 22000?
In order to ensure consumer protection, it was vital to have a uniform system to ensure the integrity and safety of each link in the food chain. A wide variety of norms occur worldwide that confuse producers and consumers. Two international organizations have developed systems standardization and global recognition of structured programs.
A Food Safety Management System (FSM) has been developed by ISO 9001, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). ISO 22000 is the standard Food Security Management System. The standard applies to all food businesses, from farmers, manufacturers and carriers to packagers and retailers. The certification of ISO 22000 is globally recognized and is becoming increasingly popular. In the last year, there were tripled applications.
Global Food security Initiative (GFSI) is an organization that works to harmonize food safety standards in the Consumer Goods Framework and a partnership between distributors, suppliers and food services firms. In compliance with a basic set of criteria, GFSI measures the different food safety standards. The requirements fitting expectations were approved. Many major retailers and manufacturers ask their providers to register under the GFSI system. FSSC 22000 is one of the standards.
Classification of the Food Safety Code (FSSC) 22000 is a scheme for classification of food manufacturers focused on ISO 22000 and the PAS 220. It contains both the Food Safety Management System requirements found in ISO 22000 and the Publicly Available Standard (PAS) 220 prerequisite programs requirements. The ISO Technical Specifications ISO / TS 22002-1:2009 also included the PAS 220 requirements.
ISO and FSSC have the same criteria for food safety compliance. They differ in the way they define PRP requirements: ISO 22000 calls for PRPs to be implemented, which are organizational and product-specific, to check the likelihood of danger. The regulation does not provide specific PRPs and PRP information, but requires the company to take into account and use appropriate data (statutory, administrative, consumer and other requirements).
The above requirements are set out in FSSC 22000, but include PAS 220 which specifies specific requirements for PRPs to be addressed by manufacturers. Whether you settle on an ISO 22000 supplier, please note that FSSC only exists to suppliers (see for more information) if you are not an ISO 22000 producer. You have a choice of ISO or FSSC standards when manufacturing food products. What your customer base needs in order to help define the norm for your business is important to determine.
