UltraTech Cement, India’s largest and the world’s 10th largest producer of cement is the cement arm of the Aditya Birla Group - India’s first multinational corporation. With an installed capacity of 48.75 MTPA from its manufacturing locations in India and 3.2 MTPA from its overseas plants, UltraTech is India’s leading cement manufacturer. As of Dec. 2011, UltraTech’s presence along with its subsidiary’s is recorded at 11 integrated plants, one white cement plant, one clinkerisation plant in UAE, 15 grinding units; 11 in India, 2 in UAE, 1 in Bahrain and Bangladesh each, 2 rail bulk terminals in India and 3 coastal terminals, of which 2 are located in India and 1 in Sri Lanka and 102 concrete plants. Straddling export markets in countries across the Indian Ocean, Africa, Europe and the Middle East, UltraTech Cement is also the country’s largest cement clinker exporter.

Birla White is the mother brand of UltraTech’s white cement products. Ready Mix Concrete of UltraTech Cement operates under the unbrella brand of UltraTech Concrete. UltraTech’s Building Products Division manufactures and markets a range of dry mix mortars, concrete blocks and water proofing solutions. UltraTech has retail formats across the country called UltraTech Building Solutions which are stores offering a range of construction and building materials and services.

The UltraTech brand is built around the attributes of ‘modernity’, ‘quality’ and ‘technological superiority’. Based on these defining factors the brand is positioned as the expert for all construction needs. UltraTech Cement has been honored with the title of consumer validated ‘SUPERBRAND’ conferred by the Superbrands Council and has also been bestowed the title of consumer selected ‘POWERBRAND’ instituted by Powerbrands India for the year 2011-‘12.

Our Milestones

What started as a small cement plant in the year 1983 has today grown into the eighth biggest cement manufacturer in the world. On the way the company achieved several milestones. Here are a few major ones.

1983-1997

In the year 1983 company went into business with the first Awarpur Cement Works Plant.In the year 1987 the second plant was set up.In the year 1993 Jharsuguda grinding unit was set up.In the year 1994 Hirmi Cement Works plant got operational.In the year 1996 Gujarat Cement Works Plant I got operational.

1998 – 2002

Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat Cement Works (II) Plants were set up.

In the year 1999 the Ratnagiri Cement Works plant got operational. In the same year Narmada Cement Company Limited was bought over. Bulk cement terminals were built is Mangalore, Navi Mumbai and Colombo.

In the year 2001 Grasim acquired 10 per cent stake in L&T and subsequently increased stake to 15.3 per cent by October 2002 Durgapur grinding unit was also set up.

2003 – 2006

In the year 2003 the board of Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) decided to de-merge its cement business into a separate cement company (CemCo).Grasim decided to acquire an 8.5 per cent equity stake from L&T and then made an open offer for 30 per cent of the equity of CemCo, to acquire management control of the company.

In the year 2004 the implementation process to de-merge the cement business of L&T was completed. In the same year Grasim acquired controlling stake in the newly formed company UltraTech.

In the year 2006 Narmada Cement Company Limited amalgamated with UltraTech Cement Ltd.
